ISO 9001 is an international quality management standard. It was first
published in 1987, updated in 1994, and again in 2000. The current
version was published on November 15, 2008 and is the fourth edition
of the ISO 9001 standard. It cancels and replaces all previous editions.

ISO 9001 is part of a family of quality management standards
that also includes ISO 9000 and ISO 9004. ISO 9000 discusses
definitions and terminology and is used to clarify the concepts
used by the ISO 9001 and the ISO 9004 standards. ISO 9001 specifies
requirements and is used for certification purposes while ISO 9004
specifies guidelines and is used to achieve sustained success.
